       "Buy Local, Buy Ontario, Buy Canada" Campaign

 One of the planks in the economic stimulus strategy proposed by Canadian Labour Congress is a buy Canadian policy. At the local level, the leadership of Labour Council believes that we can move the stimulus agenda forward by advocating loudly and persistently for the City Council to adopt a procurement policy that puts local workers, products and suppliers at the centre of buying decisions. The city is considering our request currently: a report from staff is expected in February. We want to expand the campaign to colleges, universities,school boards and hospital too. But we cannot afford to let the city off the hook. If necessary, be prepared to talk to your councillor, write letters, attend council meetings and make it known that you support using your tax dollars to support local jobs and local business.
